ETHOS
We aim to transform the fashion industry into an innovative, forward-thinking industry that conserves and restores the planet through our small efforts. By preventing the depletion of precious resources, soil degradation, air, and water pollution, and harm it causes to our health and others’ livelihoods, we hope to be true to our Ethos. Our commitment is to speak openly, be transparent, and be respectful of our planet, makers, and artisans. Our goal is always to focus on slow fashion, using natural, sustainable materials, producing small quantities, and providing high-quality products.
Our seven Ethos are the pillars of our brand. Read more to find out …
Organic Fabrics
We source only organic and natural fabrics to create each of our pieces. Made without using harmful chemicals in their entire value chains. Organic fibers like cotton, wool, hemp, linen, and so many other natural fibers are grown without the use of any chemical pesticides or fertilizers. We ensure that our garments, and accessories, are as safe as possible for humans & the environment.
Signature prints
We are a house of innovative and quirky prints that are a statement. Although we use age-old printing techniques, our signature prints are the edge you are looking for.
We get our customized designs printed on fabrics using this beautiful craft. The motifs are brought to life by the artisans in their workshops in Rajasthan.
Natural & Plant Dyes
Keeping our focus on sustainability and being environmentally conscious, we only use natural and azo-free dyes in our clothing production. These dyes are made by hand using flowers, vegetables, herbs, barks, and roots found in and around Rajasthan, including organic indigo vat dye. Moreover, these dyes are fully biodegradable and contain no harmful or synthetic toxins, so they are later used for irrigating the fields, causing no harm to the soil.
Minimal Waste
A lot of energy is put into minimizing waste at Oru Nka. Patterns are cut in such a way as to eliminate waste scraps as much as possible. Accessories like masks, scrunchies, pouches, bow ties, stationary, pet accessories, textile jewelry, and bags are made using leftover fabric under our Limited Merch segment. Construction, waste management, and other sustainable practices are strictly controlled and enforced.
Green Fashion
Green Fashion at Oru Nka is about making clothes that consider the environment, consumers’ health, and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry. We have pledged to make conscious choices to preserve the planet’s resources and do right by everyone involved in the production and consumption of our products.
Hand Crafted
Rather than a fast fashion assembly line process, we devour hand-crafting. Our artisanal community and their age old crafts are our backbone. In this digital era, we’ve chosen to support and preserve these beautiful pieces of South-Asian Heritage.
Fairtrade
- OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISADVANTAGED PRODUCERS
A key objective of our design house is to reduce poverty through trade. To transition from income insecurity and poverty to economic independence and ownership, we assist artisans and weavers in Rajasthan today. We encourage the younger generation to take up the craft by paying fair wages.
- TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY
We are transparent in our management and business relations with all our employees, artisans, and craftsmen. When choosing fabric, designs, prints, and patterns, the organization involves employees, members, and producers in decision-making. Masterji, all the artisans, and our founder Simran collaborate to create the final products. But above all, we are transparent with you. We do not keep secrets here, we tell you what went into your Oru Nka garment.
- FAIRTRADE PRACTICES
In addition to its concern for social, economic, and environmental well-being, Oru Nka is a responsible and professional company that meets its commitments on time and with the quality promised. Suppliers adhere to contract terms and deliver products on time and as promised.
- FAIR PAYMENT
Workers are offered a fair price mutually agreed upon through dialogue and participation. Prices are such that they can be sustained on the market, considering gender equality.
- NO CHILD LABOUR. NO FORCED LABOUR
Neither child nor child’s health or well-being is compromised during any stage of production or sale in a hazardous or detrimental way. Neither forced nor bonded labor is practiced. All employments, contracts, and projects are based on mutual agreement and consent.
- NO DISCRIMINATION. GENDER EQUALITY. FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION
A clear gender equality policy and plan within the organization prohibits discrimination in hiring, remuneration, training, promotions, terminations, or retirement.
- GOOD WORKING CONDITIONS
As part of its safety and health policy, we provide safe and healthy working conditions for employees and members. Their long-term safety and health are a priority here and we go to great lengths to ensure the same.
- RESPECT FOR THE PLANET
We use production technologies that reduce energy consumption, and we use renewable energy technologies that minimize greenhouse gas emissions. All raw materials come from sustainably managed sources, and we purchase only locally.
